ABOUT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

Mandeep Singh Cheema left us in a motorcycle accident on September 16th,2012 at the age of 38 years. His family and friends were devastated with their loss. They came together and decided to do something in his memory that could keep his memories alive and also could give back to the community.

We launched Mandeep Singh Cheema Charitable Foundation on June 23rd 2013 on Mandeep’s birthday. Our mission was to support kids with no parents or single parents for their higher education, sports activities and support other organization who are working towards needy people.

Our first event was at par event even then we had raised $7500. We came into contact with Peel Children Aid Society. We learnt how kids live with the foster parents and once they turn 18 they are on their own. They only get $800 from the government. Just imagine they have to pay the rent, pay for groceries, pay bus fare, pay for internet and on top of everything they have to pay for their tuition fees. We decided to sponsor the bursaries for them which was one of our missions.

We have been donating portion of our raised money to Humanity First and Seva Food because people who really need food come here. We thought this would support the families in need who are facing some kind of crisis and which could be due to loosing a family member, We also sponsored sports kits for The Field Hockey and also sponsored Running Trophy after Mandeep Singh Cheema Charitable Foundation.

In 2014 we did Gala Night and actually brought those kids whom we had sponsored for the bursaries. Those kids shared their stories and people were really moved and they came up to us and promised to help us every year. One of the gentleman Joe Mozzone was so moved that he donated $10,000 and has been doing it every year.

In 2015 Tejbir Cheema who is Mandeep Cheema’s cousin suggested that we should do a motorcycle ride in his memory because Mandeep had tremendous amount of love for his bike. As family we were not prepared because we had lost Mandeep in a motorcycle accident. Tejbir said to us that if we love someone we must love what they love. We realized it and we all decided to start the ride.

Anita who is Mandeep’S niece and myself Navdeep who is Mandeep’s sister we went around and attended the motorcycle rides, we talked to the organizers. Tej and Tracy guided us with the legal requirements because they are regular riders and they are also a big part of Motor cycle club in Kingston ‘ Gaurdians Of Children’. With so much love and hard work we started our first ever ‘Ride For Raja’ in 2015. We had commitment of about 100 bikes but the rain was forecasted so we started with 9 bikers. We never gave up and worked harder and in 2016 we had 18 bikers. We approached our local Bikers Club and Sikh Motorcycle Club Ontario decided to join us on our ride. Tej could bring more bikers from Gaurdians of Children from Kingston, Barrie and Toronto so in 2017 we had 60 riders.
We go to different businesses and they sponsor us. A lot of media helps us to spread the word around. IN 2018 we have already decided a carnival theme and talking to more bikers. We are so determined to get over 150 bikers in 2018.
